My typical day

Being me is so fe-licious. I am the prince of my domain and I go forth to every room in the house. My every desire is cat-ered to by Meowm and Papurr so that I have only to live the life of leisure. And I am an expert at that. My main activity is lounging and there are a miriad of places suitable for this passtime. The Coffee table allows me to gaze out the big window and watch birds and butterflies and squirrels cavort for my amusement. When they bore me I snooze full length on the cool glass top. I wake only to stretch and change position, then resume my slumber perchance to dream of chasing some wild creature, since I would never exert the energy to do it while awake. The back of the recliner gives me an imperial view of the living room where I hold court and on occasion I leap very deftly onto Papurr's shoulder so he can carry me to the kitchen. Once there I indulge myself with the contents of my special hand thrown pottery bowls. After all that activity I must retire to my ladies closet for a snooze on the thick carpet. Eventually I amble down the hall to the sunroom and have a visit with the air conditioner and commend it on it's unfailing devotion to keeping me cool through this longest and hottest of summers. I shall give it a knighthood. Like all good monarchs I see to the protection of my people by laying on the rug right in front of the back door to make it difficult to go in or out. This tedious chore makes me drowsy so I take the opportunity to catch a nap but with ears ever alert to dangers.......that might hurt Me! Such rigorous exercise gives me an appetitie again so I stalk stealthily like a Lion, King of the Jungle, back to my dining nook. There in my dish is a wad of imaginary prey from my hunting expedition of the night before. Ah, nighttime! My favorite part of the day. So much intrigue! The strangest critters come out in the dark. I enjoy capturing and taunting them before I eat them. At dawn I talk to the Sun and begin to rouse my subjects by nipping at their toes or walking the full length of their body and then sitting on their back and staring at their head. They don't fool me by playing possum, I know they're awake and we have a duel of patience, I always win. Once the household is active I return to my throne, the coffee table, and take a leisuely bath being sure to groom every inch of my beautiful fur. It's so important for one to keep up one's appearance. I allow my subjects to flatter and stroke me a while and then I circle the table for the best spot and lay down to begin my routine oncemore, beginning with a nap. Being King is so enervating.

Spring Fever

Spring is here! Pur-r-r-fect. Birds are singing, flowers are blooming, bugs are crawling. It makes me swish my tail and twitch my whiskers! I feel frisky and full of energy after the long cold winter. I've been supervising the Spring planting. Meowm has been putting out Pansies, Begonias.and lots of bright colored flowers in hanging planters. The Rose bush and Iris are budding out and the Giant Wisteria vine has taken over a grove of trees and and is a cascade of purple blossoms. The new herb bed is basking in the Sun and providing lots of flavors and aromas. My favorite is Rosemary but Sage will do in a pinch. Papurr has been working on the vegetable garden. They like to grow their own fresh veggies. The Peas and Lettuce are up and the Strawberry bed is blooming. The Tomatoes are big enough for cages and the Asparagus shoots are springing up over night! Potatoes, Carrots, Onions, Peppers, and Garlic are all in and three new Blackberry vines are stretching their roots.

Meowm's hobby is Genealogy. She has been researching both sides of our family litter mates for a couple of years and building a family tree. She finds strays all the time! She has compiled quite a long list of FurNames: Allen,Bannon, Blamer, Cassidy, Cleveland, Coffey, Craigo, Fitch, Graham, Guinn, Howard, Hughbanks, Lidster, Lilly, Loughridge, Mason, McCauley, McClain(Lane), McGee, McKinney,Morgan, Nancy, Powell, Stapleton, Vandiford. If you belong to any of these groups of FurKin we would like to share notes with you.

How I became a Furkid.

It was a hot, humid day in June. MommaCat went off somewhere and left me sleeping in the shade with my litter mates. But I awoke and got bored. I felt adventurous and decided to track MommaCat. I was barely ten days old but I started to trudge through the jungle of Bermuda grass and Dandelions playing Tiger on my short wobbly legs. It was slow going and I'd traveled over forty feet. I was hot so I stopped to rest a bit under a shrub. Suddenly I saw a large shadow moving across the grassy plain blocking out the Sun. I looked up to see a giant animal bending down to look at me. I thought if I stayed very still it wouldn't see me. I was wrong. My orange striped coat contrasted with the green grass and gave away my position. I was afraid but was determined to be fierce like my wild ancestors. I let out my mightiest roar... Mew-w-w! "Well hello little cutie!", said the giant as she picked me up. My first thought was "What kind of Cat is this?". It was a very strange breed indeed, and humongous! The giant cradled me in her paws and took me inside her den where it was cool. She held me close stroking me softly and cooed soothingly, a strange type of purr. Oddly I wasn't afraid. My curiosity overpowered me. This cat's den was intriguing. I sensed more adventure! I was so small I fit snuggly in one of the She giant's paws like a cradle. She rocked back and forth and soon I was napping. When I woke up there was another giant! This one looked more like a Cat. It had whiskers all over it's face. "Sh-h-h", said the She giant. "What have we here?"' asked the He giant. "Happy Father's Day!", said the She giant. The He giant looked me over closely, then let out a big sneeze! AH-CHOOOO. "That can't be good!" I thought. I gave him my most pitiful, helpless look with my big Blue eyes (they hadn't changed yet) and he caved. He went out and got a Kitty bottle and some formula and the She giant hand fed me. Boy was I thirsty! And I had this nipple all to myself! I thought about my MommaCat and siblings...but not for long. Soon I had a cozy bed all my own and all the kitty milk I could swallow. The She giant got rid of all the pesky fleas from my fur. Ah-h-h that felt so good! As I explored their lair I found all sorts of cool things to play and do. I could pretend to be a mountain lion by jumping on the furniture. I even tried flying!...once. So, I adopted my giant cat family and we've lived happily ever since.
